Amazon announced a higher than expected profit and revenue for the fourth quarter than anticipated. However, it provided a disappointing forecast for the current period.
Amazon's profit for the fourth quarter of 2021 was $14.3 billion, which significantly exceeded analysts' forecasts. The company's revenue for this period also turned out to be higher than expected at $137.4 billion.
However, Amazon warned that its profitability may be compromised due to expected increases in operational costs in the first quarter of 2022. The company forecasts a profit ranging from $0 to $4 billion amid anticipated growth in delivery and marketing expenses.
"We are making significant investments in infrastructure and staffing to support our rapid growth, and this is reflected in our operating costs," said Amazon's financial director.
