The president of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (CHC), Adriano Espaillat, led a press conference outside the Capitol in which he highlighted the contribution of Latino small business owners as drivers of the U.S. economy. Espaillat emphasized that Latinos generate over 4.1 trillion dollars annually to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), exceeding expectations.
During the event, Espaillat was joined by representatives from the sector such as Julián Castro, executive director of the Latino Community Foundation, and Sindy Benavides from Aquí: The Accountability Movement. Espaillat expressed his commitment to the implementation of policies that facilitate access to capital, reduce regulatory barriers, and support Latino entrepreneurs.
At the press conference, Julián Castro pointed out the disparity in the allocation of federal contracts and access to capital for Latino small businesses. On the other hand, Democrat Pete Aguilar blamed President Donald Trump for the impending recession in the United States, stating that the Latino community would be disproportionately affected. Castro emphasized the importance of providing strong opportunities to Latino entrepreneurs to stimulate economic growth.
In this regard, a call was made to Congress and the Administration to increase investment in access to capital and other opportunities that allow Latino small business owners to expand. Sindy Benavides, director of Aquí: The Accountability Movement, added that it is essential to support Latino entrepreneurs with concrete and real measures for their development.
In conclusion, the Democratic leaders present at the press conference highlighted the crucial role of Latino entrepreneurs as drivers of the U.S. economy and called for greater attention and support for this key sector for the growth and development of the country.
