US President Donald Trump dismissed criticism of a proposal for a 50-year mortgage, saying it would help more Americans afford their monthly home payments. Extending the mortgage term to 50 years instead of the standard 30 years would reduce borrowers' monthly payments, but it would also slow down homeowners' ability to fully own the property and result in paying much more interest over the life of the loan. Discussions about the 50-year mortgage began over the weekend after Trump, in an interview with Fox News that aired on Monday, stated: 'It's not dangerous, it just means paying a smaller amount each month over a longer period.'
