US Electric Car Sales Drop a Third After Tax Credit Repeal

Electric car sales fell by about a third in October after President Trump and Republicans in Congress canceled the $7,500 federal tax credit. Americans were generally already concerned about buying electric cars, and the generous tax credits only made matters worse. Brent Bennett, policy director at the Texas Public Policy Foundation and author of a comprehensive study on electric vehicle support, said: «This retreat in electric vehicle policy this year represents a return to the old ways». The elimination of electric vehicle support came after three regulatory changes that repealed automakers' requirements to produce electric cars.
