US Postpones Tariffs on Chinese Semiconductors

The U.S. Trade Representative's office concluded that China must be penalized for using unfair methods to dominate the semiconductor industry, but it will wait 18 months before imposing tariffs. An investigation by the U.S. Trade Representative found that China's use of unfair methods «to dominate the semiconductor sector is unreasonable, burdens or restricts U.S. trade, and therefore requires legal action». The U.S. Trade Representative's office stated that the current tariff level, which is zero, «will increase within 18 months, on June 23, 2027, to a rate that will be announced at least 30 days before that date».
