US Clothing Brand Uses Maduro's Arrest to Promote Its Hoodie

The detention of Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro left an image that went viral: the leader in handcuffs, smiling and wearing a blue sports hoodie. Far from ignoring the situation, the clothing's manufacturer, Origin USA, seized the viral moment to launch a sharp social media campaign and promote its product. In its official account on X (formerly Twitter), the company confirmed that the model worn by the president is the «Origin RTX Brrr Cooling Training Hoodie» in «Patriot Blue» (Patriot Blue), a detail that did not go unnoticed due to the irony of the name. The post, accompanied by a link to its online store, appealed to black humor about Maduro's judicial situation and stock availability. The message read: «Unfortunately, our RTX 'Patriot Blue' hoodie won't ship until spring. ¡But it's already available to pre-order!», they wrote, alluding to the sudden high demand or the times of justice. The product is a technical training garment with temperature regulation technology, whose market value is $79. In the viral image, Maduro is seen with a black cap and the brand's blue hoodie, making an «ok» gesture with his thumbs up as he is escorted by federal agents. This marketing strategy generated thousands of interactions, positioning the U.S. brand—which boasts of manufacturing its products 100% in the U.S.—at the center of political and commercial conversation after the fall of the Chavist regime.
