This substantial payment was made as a multi-billion dollar donation to Melinda French Gates' 'Pivotal Philanthropies' foundation, which works to support and empower women, according to a report by the British newspaper 'The Telegraph'. The couple, who have three daughters, divorced in 2021 after 27 years of marriage. 'The New York Times' revealed details of this donation, the largest of its kind in history, noting that the information surfaced through tax filings. This donation is part of a divorce settlement valued at approximately $76 billion. Following the divorce, Melinda French Gates resigned from her position as vice president of the 'Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation' in May 2024. Bill Gates had previously pledged to donate 99% of his fortune, estimated at around $200 billion, keeping only 1% for himself and his children, equivalent to about $1.62 billion.
