American police arrested a man from Kansas City on charges of selling two identical cars multiple times through the Facebook Marketplace website, then stealing them to sell them again. Mamadou Diallo, 24, who used the pseudonym 'Yabipali Cherinet' on Facebook, faces six counts of first-degree auto fraud and eight counts of forgery, each carrying a maximum penalty of seven years in prison. According to the 'Independent' newspaper, the sales and thefts followed a similar pattern: within two months of last year, eight separate reports of car thefts were filed, all telling the same story. Buyers met the seller in person, paid cash, and received what appeared to be an original title and bill of sale. Each victim bought either a gray 2013 Honda Civic or a gray 2013 Buick Verano from the same seller—a man who used an online pseudonym, whom investigators say is the suspect now facing charges. But soon after, each new owner discovered that the car they had just bought was stolen, often within 24 hours. Victims identified Diallo in police lineups. One woman who bought a car that was later stolen identified surveillance camera footage of a man she recognized as Diallo returning to her home and taking the car. The police report stated that 'when the victim discovered the car was missing, she reviewed the surveillance footage from her home and noticed the suspect stealing the car around 1:00 a.m. on June 13, 2025,' which was about seven hours after she paid for it. The report added: 'The victim later saw the same car listed for sale again on Facebook Marketplace and contacted the seller, who was using a different account.'
