Google has launched a new update for its smart assistant 'Gemini', enabling users to automate multi-step tasks on Android smartphones. This step enhances the transformation of artificial intelligence from a mere conversational tool into a digital assistant capable of performing tasks within apps. With the new update, users can now execute complex actions like booking a ride, ordering food and groceries, or making purchases through a single command. Gemini automatically handles the steps within supported apps, eliminating the need for manual navigation between screens. This feature will initially be available on Google Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro X phones, as well as Samsung's new Galaxy S26 series. It can be activated by long-pressing the power button to summon the smart assistant for daily tasks. Google confirmed that these operations are carried out within a secure virtual window on the device, with continuous notifications about the task's progress and the ability to cancel it at any time, enhancing user control and privacy. The company also noted that the feature currently supports a limited number of apps, such as food delivery services, with plans for gradual expansion. In related news, Google also announced an expansion of its smart anti-fraud features. Gemini can now analyze incoming calls from unknown numbers and warn users if it detects voice patterns linked to fraud attempts, via an on-screen alert and a voice notification. The company explained that this feature operates directly on the device without sending data to servers. Google has also broadened its scam message detection to cover more than 20 countries and support multiple languages, including Arabic, French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish, aiming to enhance user digital security. The update also improved the smart camera search tool, which can now recognize multiple elements in an image or video simultaneously, such as clothing or products, with the option to virtually try on some items. This move is part of the accelerating competition among tech companies to develop more advanced digital assistants capable of not only providing information but also performing daily tasks, reinforcing AI's role as a core component of the smartphone experience.
