Pixar Animation Studios has confirmed that it is working on 'Monsters, Inc. 3,' a new installment in one of its most memorable franchises. The announcement is part of a strategic studio realignment that seeks to balance sequels to successful titles with new original stories. According to the Argentine News Agency (NA), via Variety, the decision comes at a time when the company is trying to regain its strength in the animation film industry. In recent years, the performance of Pixar's original films has failed to match the impact of 'Coco,' released in 2017. Currently, the possibility of continuing a story is analyzed from the earliest stages of production, something that was not a priority before when the focus was on innovation. The third 'Monsters, Inc.' film still has no plot details or confirmed release date, but it adds to a list of sequels that Pixar already has in progress. Among them is 'Toy Story 5,' where Woody and Buzz Lightyear will face new challenges, including a technological antagonist represented by a tablet. 'The Incredibles 3' is also confirmed, scheduled for 2028 and directed by Peter Sohn, and a sequel to 'Coco 2,' set for 2029. At the same time, the studio continues to develop original stories; among them are 'Gatto,' centered on a feline thief in Venice, and 'Ono Ghost Market,' set in a supernatural market. Additionally, director Domee Shi is working on Pixar's first musical, a move that marks the exploration of new genres within the studio. Creative director Pete Docter acknowledged that in previous stages, too much freedom was given to first-time directors, which in some cases led to overly personal films that failed to connect with a global audience. For Docter, the current challenge is to find a balance between innovation and commercial appeal, while maintaining the creative spirit that has characterized Pixar since its inception.
