Tesla and LG to Build Massive Battery Factory in Michigan

Tesla and LG Energy Solutions have announced plans to build a $4.3 billion factory in Lansing, Michigan, to produce lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries. Production is set to begin next year, supplying Tesla's Megapack 3 energy storage systems and establishing a robust local supply chain.

The confirmation of the deal, revealed by Bloomberg in July, highlights cooperation in energy security between the United States and countries in the Indo-Pacific region. Companies Tesla and LG Energy Solutions plan to build a $4.3 billion battery factory in Lansing, Michigan, to produce batteries for the electric vehicle maker's energy storage systems unit. Production at the LFP (lithium iron phosphate) cylindrical cell battery plant is scheduled to begin next year and will supply Tesla's Megapack 3 energy storage systems, creating a strong local battery supply chain.
