Mixed U.S. Stocks Amid Geopolitical Tensions

U.S. stocks were mixed on Friday as investors monitor a fragile two-week ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran. The Dow Jones fell 0.27%, while the S&P 500 rose 0.11% and the Nasdaq gained 0.53%. The major indexes are on track for a strong weekly gain; the S&P 500 jumped more than 3% through Thursday's close, on track for its best weekly performance since last November. Oil prices also pulled back from session highs, while the S&P 500 rose after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his country was ready to enter negotiations with Lebanon "as soon as possible." The Dow Jones has risen more than 3% since the start of the week, while the Nasdaq is on track for gains of over 4%. These movements come as markets track geopolitical developments in the Middle East after U.S. President Donald Trump warned Iran on Thursday of potential tariffs on oil tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz, posting on Truth Social: "It would be better if there were no tariffs, and if there are, they should stop them immediately." Stocks had already gained in the previous trading session, continuing their weekly ascent after Trump agreed to halt attacks on Iran for two weeks. (Agencies)
