According to The Information, Google is developing artificial intelligence technology that can control a web browser to perform tasks such as searching for information and shopping. The product, known by the code name Project Jarvis, is expected to be demonstrated in December along with the release of its new large language model Gemini. This information was confirmed by sources close to the development process.
Microsoft, supported by OpenAI, is also working on enabling their models to autonomously browse the internet using a 'CUA' (computer-using agent) that can take actions based on discovered information. This project was reported by Reuters in July.
As the report details, Anthropic and Google are aiming to adopt the agent concept at a new level using programming infrastructure that interacts directly with the user's computer or browser.
Google representatives have not yet commented on this information.
