
The film "Inside Out 2" became the leader at the box office in 2024 and became the highest-grossing animated film of all time. However, it was excluded from the competition for the "Oscar" for Best Animated Feature alongside "The Wild Robot" and "Flaw".
Currently, the creators of animated films are striving to receive nominations for Best Picture, as these films have been excluded from that category for many years.
Merlin Crossingham, who shot the film "Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Must Fall", stated: "Animation as a whole occupies a special place, which is why we want to support it for competing for the Best Picture nomination."
Five animated films made it to the top 10 box office in 2024.
General Producer Bonnie Arnold said: "I think we are becoming increasingly significant in this respect, it looks like a glass ceiling for us," pointing out the persistent barrier to the development of animated films.
Although some animated films have been nominated for the "Oscar" for Best Picture, such as "Beauty and the Beast" in 1991, "Up" in 2009, and "Toy Story 3" in 2010, in recent years they have faced neglect.
There is a widespread opinion that animated films are primarily intended for children, not for audiences of all ages. Arnold believes that viewing animated films in cinemas is primarily a family experience, unlike animated films for adults, which enjoy a larger following through television channels, but she does not believe that family films limit their audience.
