Women Set to Fly to Space with Blue Origin

Pop star Katy Perry and CBS's Gayle King are ready to fly into space alongside Jeff Bezos's fiancée, Lauren Sánchez, on an upcoming all-women flight in Blue Origin's tourist rocket. The aerospace company founded by Jeff Bezos announced on Thursday the women who will be part of the eleventh mission of its New Shepard rocket, which also includes: Kerianne Flynn, producer. Aisha Bowe, former NASA scientist and CEO of STEMBoard. Amanda Nguyen, research scientist in bioastronautics and advocate for survivors of sexual violence.

The new mission, like the previous ten, aims to take a private crew to the edge of space, and will be the first composed entirely of women since Valentina Tereshkova's solo space flight in 1963.

Sánchez first announced her plans to fly to space on Blue Origin's New Shepard rocket with an all-female crew in 2023 when she spoke to Vogue. At that time, she said that all the women were extraordinary and that they were "paving the way for women." The journalist also expressed in a statement her enthusiasm for leading a team of explorers aiming to broaden their perspective on Earth, share their experiences, and create a lasting impact that inspires future generations.

Blue Origin's New Shepard rocket is designed to take customers to the edge of space and bring them back to enjoy a quick experience of weightlessness on an approximately 11-minute trip. This week, Blue Origin successfully launched the tenth crewed mission, NS-30, from Texas on board New Shepard, in which for the first time a Spaniard traveled, explorer and host Jesús Calleja. To date, the program has transported 52 people above the Kármán line, the internationally recognized boundary of space.
