The University of Pennsylvania announced that it has contacted the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) after offensive emails were sent to alumni, a data breach that targeted 'selected information systems'.An email sent to University of Pennsylvania alumni on Friday showed that a person claiming to speak on behalf of the institution criticized it, describing it as 'elitist' and 'not based on merit at all', and used other more profane language to describe staff and students.In a statement on Monday, the university added: 'We are working with law enforcement, as well as other external technical resources, to address the matter as quickly as possible.'The security-focused website Blazing Computer cited a person or entity that reported the attack was likely carried out from abroad.
