According to police statements obtained by ABC News, authorities received reports of a shooting, and a 53-year-old man was shot in the back. As police were responding to the scene, they were informed that a dog "jumped on the bed and fired a shot" at its owner. Upon arrival, police found the man conscious and lying on the ground. The victim told police that before the incident, he was cleaning his firearm, identified as a hunting rifle, and had placed it on his bed. Officials reported that the man's son was not in the same room when the dog fired the shot. After paramedics arrived at the scene, the man was taken to a hospital, where he underwent immediate surgery to treat his injuries. He will require additional surgery later. He was sitting on the bed when "one of his dogs suddenly jumped on the bed," causing the rifle to fire and shoot the man in his lower back. At the time of the shooting, the victim and his son were the only two people in the home, along with two other dogs.
