Diddy, said that 'the chefs here make it taste as if grandma cooked it.' He added that 'everyone misses their family. People get depressed during the holidays. We just wanted to get together as a family and do our thing.' Due to a lack of basic equipment like ovens, microwaves, or knives, volunteers had to improvise, using their ID cards to chop food, which they then boiled. Rapper Sean 'Diddy' Combs, who is serving a sentence for sex crimes, helped finance the dinner. He partnered with the inmate group 'Bankroll Bosses' to buy extra food from the prison commissary and distribute it cell by cell. The meals were prepared two days before the November 27th celebration. Diddy stated through a representative that 'Thanksgiving is about making sure others eat.'
