Reiner's Son Arrested for Parents' Murder in Los Angeles

The son of Rob and Michele Reiner, Nick Reiner, was arrested by Los Angeles authorities without resistance, hours after his parents' murder last Sunday, authorities reported on Tuesday. Nick was located in the area of Exposition Park, near the University of Southern California campus, approximately 20 kilometers from his parents' home, located in the affluent Brentwood neighborhood, explained Los Angeles Police Department Assistant Chief Alan Hamilton during a press conference. "Officers approached him and arrested him without incident," he added. The middle child of the Reiner family, 32-year-old Nick, showed no signs of resisting or attempting to flee after being spotted by police, so he was "detained without incident and transported" to police facilities. Hamilton also noted that the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) learned of the incident through a request from the city's Fire Department. "We responded to their request for assistance at the scene. Our initial West LA officers who responded determined that a crime had been committed and immediately notified our robbery and homicide division," he pointed out. Following his arrest last Sunday as the prime suspect in his father's murder, Nick Reiner hired renowned defense attorney Alan Jackson for his legal representation. The defense told the press on Tuesday before a hearing at the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office that it has not received medical clearance to appear in court today. However, according to Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman, once the defendant is medically cleared, he will be arraigned in court to be formally charged and to plead guilty or not guilty. Nick faces charges of aggravated murder following his parents' deaths, which could carry a sentence of life without parole or the death penalty. The motive for the alleged crime is currently unknown. According to associates, there was a family argument during a Christmas party at comedian Conan O'Brien's house, according to the Los Angeles Times. Nick Reiner lived in a house adjacent to his parents' after struggling for decades with drug and alcohol addiction.
