According to him, after being charged in connection with the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, his mental state deteriorated significantly to the point that he lost the strength to go on at times and thought that "he did not want to get up another day." The tragedy occurred on October 21, 2021, on a ranch in New Mexico, USA, during the filming of "Rust," when a gun Baldwin was holding fired live ammunition. The bullet hit Hutchins, who later died from her wound, and director Joel Souza, who was injured but survived. The tragedy generated intense media coverage and led to investigations into safety on film sets and the use of firearms as props. However, that process was subject to multiple judicial changes. Later, the charges against the actor were dropped and then refiled at different stages of the case. Initially, prosecutors had filed charges against Baldwin and against the armorer responsible for weapon handling on set.
