Actor Tom Hanks will portray the 16th U.S. President, Abraham Lincoln, in the film adaptation of the book 'Lincoln in the Bardo.' The film will be based on the novel of the same name by George Saunders. In addition to acting, Hanks, known for 'Forrest Gump,' will also produce the film through his Playtone label, according to Variety, a specialized media outlet, reported on Monday. This will be the first time Hanks, who in real life is a descendant of Lincoln, will portray the U.S. president. Saunders will adapt his 2017 novel alongside director Duke Johnson ('Anomalisa'), who will also direct and produce the project. 'Lincoln in the Bardo,' produced by Starburns Industries and to be filmed in London, focuses on Lincoln's relationship with his 11-year-old son, who has recently passed away. The film will combine stop-motion animation with live-action to explore 'themes of love, empathy, and human capacity in the face of unimaginable grief' through a cast of 'living and dead, historical and invented' characters, according to the specialized magazine.
