Rap icon Kanye West has apologized for his controversial antisemitic remarks by publishing an open letter on a full page of the prestigious Wall Street Journal. According to the Argentine News Agency, the rapper wrote an extensive letter addressed to "those I have hurt" and attributed his behavior to a "four-month episode of manic, psychotic, and impulsive behavior" in which he "lost touch with reality". In the statement, West explains that his erratic behavior is the result of a car accident that "caused injuries to the right frontal lobe of his brain" and led to a diagnosis of type 1 bipolar disorder. He admitted that he was misdiagnosed until 2023. "No thorough scans were done, neurological exams were limited, and the possibility of a frontal lobe injury was never considered," West detailed. "I want to apologize to the Jewish community for any pain I may have caused," he stated. "I also want to apologize to the Black community for any words or actions that were hurtful or violent." West also confessed that he is now going through a "healing" process accompanied by a medical team: "As I find my new base and my new center through an effective regimen of medication, therapy, exercise, and a clean life, I have discovered a new and much-needed clarity. You feel like you're seeing the world with more clarity than ever, when in reality you're losing control completely," he added. "To some of the people I love most, I treated them worse. The denial. When you're manic, you don't think you're sick. Looking back, I distanced myself from my true self," he added. Regarding his antisemitic comments, he stated that it was a moment of total loss of control, where he chose to hide "toward the most destructive symbol I could find, the swastika". "I'm sorry for my words, my actions, and for the pain I've caused," he concluded. "I ask for patience and understanding as I find my way home. With love, Ye."
