Snapchat Launches New Parental Control Tools

Snapchat has announced the launch of a new set of parental control tools within the Family Center options. This new feature allows parents to monitor the time their children spend on the app and get details about new friends. Parents can now view the average time their teen spent on the app daily over the past week, with a breakdown of their usage across different features like chat, sending photos and videos, creating content, and more. Additionally, parents can now find out how their teen met new friends—whether through shared friends, saved contacts, or belonging to shared groups. The company stated in a post that this information helps parents better understand new friendships and ensure their teen is communicating with people they know in real life, enabling them to start a constructive conversation if a new, unknown friend appears. Snapchat launched the Family Center in 2022 in response to regulatory pressures regarding the protection of teenagers on social media platforms. Since then, the company has added additional features, such as viewing recent teen interactions, setting time limits, and preventing access to the chatbot.
