John Ratcliffe Becomes Director of National Intelligence

The U.S. Senate has approved the appointment of John Ratcliffe as director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) with a large majority of votes on Thursday. In the voting, which took place in the middle of the day, 49 senators voted "for" and 44 "against."

Quote: "We will protect the country from all threats, regardless of where they originate," stated John Ratcliffe after his appointment.

Ratcliffe was appointed by Donald Trump to the position of director of the CIA after the former director of the agency, Gina Haspel, announced her departure. Before his work in intelligence services, he previously held the position of director of U.S. intelligence services.

Many senators welcomed his candidacy as director of the CIA, noting his professionalism and work experience. However, some of the selected individuals expressed concerns about his proximity to the president, considering that it could affect his independence in managing the agency.
