U.S. President Donald Trump stated today, on Tuesday, that the Palestinians have no alternative but to evacuate the Gaza sector. He added that he would like Egypt and Jordan to accept Palestinian refugees from Gaza. The president believes that Palestinians "really strongly" want to evacuate the blocked Gaza sector to live somewhere else, if such an opportunity were to arise. Trump told reporters in the White House: "They really want to get out of Gaza," adding, "I think they will be very happy." Egypt, Jordan, and other Arab countries rejected this idea. However, a high-ranking American official, it seems, intervened on behalf of the president when he was asked a question about the seriousness of Trump's proposals. He stated that he sees a devastated war-torn Gaza as "a place of destruction" and believes that recovery will take from 10 to 15 years and would necessarily force people to live on lands unsuitable for survival. In turn, the U.S. Special Representative for the Middle East, Steven Uitrakht, stated on Tuesday that it is "strange" to believe that the Gaza sector could again become habitable for Palestinians within five years after the destructive war between Israel and Hamas. He told reporters before the White House prior to meeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with Trump, that "it is unfair to say to the Palestinians that they could go back within five years. This is silly." In response to a question about Trump's proposal to "cleanse" the area by relocating Palestinians from it, he said: "When the president talks about his 'cleansing,' he means to make it suitable for living." The American diplomat confirmed the possibility of fulfilling the third stage of the agreement on the cancellation of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, which began on January 19, that is, the restoration of Gaza. He stated that "the third stage, the restoration, cannot be implemented under the conditions of the agreements, that is, within five years. This is practically impossible."
