The United States Department of Defense has deployed the guided missile destroyer 'USS Gravely' in the Gulf of Mexico, now renamed the Gulf of America by President Donald Trump. This mobilization is part of a strategy aimed at combating drug trafficking in the region.
Sean Parnell, Pentagon spokesperson, emphasized the importance of securing U.S. territorial waters, in addition to monitoring the land border. The 'USS Gravely', coming from the Yorktown Naval Weapons Station in Virginia, embarked in the Gulf of America to intensify actions against the trafficking of substances such as fentanyl.
Lieutenant General Alexus Grynkewich, director of operations at the Joint Chiefs of Staff, explained that the destroyer will head to the Gulf of America to participate in drug interception missions coming into the country, closely collaborating with the Coast Guard on these operations.
These measures add to the actions taken by the Trump administration to combat both drug trafficking and irregular migration, including the deployment of military personnel to the border and the implementation of detention and deportation processes for irregular migrants, thus reaffirming the government's commitment to national security.
