The U.S. Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, posted a harsh message on social media X addressed to Democratic Senators Elizabeth Warren and Amy Klobuchar, whom he called 'failures' for their role in U.S. politics and their opposition to leaders like Argentine President Javier Milei.
'You failed to thwart the electoral success of one of our great allies in Latin America, President @JMilei. He won by an overwhelming majority, with the poorest members of society voting for economic freedom,' Bessent wrote in a message that quickly went viral.
In his tweet, the economist stated that the idea of 'economic freedom' is 'particularly anathema to Senator Warren, the American Peronist resident in the Senate.' Additionally, he criticized the inability of the Democratic Congress to reopen the government and warned of the impact on the agricultural sector.
'They failed to reopen the government, preventing our Administration's efforts to provide aid to American farmers,' he added, noting that the lack of action could harm upcoming crops.
Bessent also included a reference to President Donald Trump, by remarking that 'as the attached photo shows, @POTUS is in Asia demonstrating what successful American leadership means,' and anticipated that the meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping would bring 'a resounding victory for our great farmers.'
The economist closed his post with a warning to the senators: 'If you decide to continue contributing to your legacy of failure by voting to keep the government closed during the upcoming Thanksgiving holidays, both of you should be ashamed.'
Finally, he highlighted the importance of the relationship with Argentina, emphasizing that 'the Argentine economic bridge now generates profits for the American people.'
