U.S. President Donald Trump said he will immediately end the temporary protected deportation status for Somalis living in Minnesota, accelerating the end of a program begun in 1991 under another Republican president. Trump wrote on the social media site Truth Social late Friday: "Somali gangs are terrorizing the people of that great state, and billions of dollars are being wasted," without providing further explanation or evidence. Trump also described Minnesota as "a hub for money laundering from fraudulent activities" under Democratic Governor Tim. He added: "I, as President of the United States, am therefore terminating, with immediate effect, the temporary protected status for Somalis in Minnesota."
