Trump says Ukraine peace deal is close

US President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday evening that an agreement to resolve the crisis in Ukraine is very close, emphasizing that it is not an easy task. "I thought this could have been done faster," he said. Earlier on Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt confirmed that the US has made significant progress towards reaching a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia. She added: "There are some details that need to be settled, which are not insurmountable, but will require further talks between Ukraine, Russia, and the US." Earlier on Tuesday, a US official told ABC News that the Ukrainian delegation has officially agreed to the terms of the peace agreement with Russia proposed by the US, with some details specified. ABC News noted that the American 28-point peace plan, presented to Ukraine in Geneva, underwent substantial revisions and now consists of only 19 points. Sensitive points regarding amnesty for acts committed during the war were removed, as well as proposed restrictions on the future size of the Ukrainian military. Despite the initial agreement, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated in a speech on Monday night that more work is needed on the plan, which was modified over the weekend. He added: "I think we are very close to a deal." He made these remarks during a speech at the traditional White House turkey pardoning ceremony for a turkey named Rumie before Thanksgiving, which is celebrated in the US this year on November 27. "We'll see," he concluded.
