Washington, D.C., November 27 (NA) – The suspect in the shooting of two members of the U.S. National Guard near the White House, which occurred on Wednesday, is an Afghan citizen who entered the country in 2021. The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Rahmanullah Lakanwal, lived in the state of Washington, according to information published by Xinhua citing police sources to NBC News. Authorities stated they are still working to verify all of his personal data. In this way, the FBI will open an investigation into the shooting as a possible act of terrorism, according to senior U.S. law enforcement officials. The incident occurred a few blocks from the White House at around 2:15 p.m. local time (7:15 p.m. GMT), according to authorities. The National Guard members were patrolling when an individual approached from the corner, drew a weapon, and opened fire. Two National Guard members were shot and remain in 'critical condition,' FBI Director Kash Patel told the press. The suspect was also shot by police and is in a hospital, according to police.
