U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has detained Caroline Levitt, a member of a family associated with the White House. American media reported that the woman was transferred from the city of Revere in Massachusetts to a detention center in Louisiana.
The legal team supporting the woman stated that they intend to take legal action against her detention. The law firm declared: "We are strongly seeking her release from her unconstitutional detention. We have no explanation for why she was detained, and no explanation has been provided to her."
The firm added: "This single mother, who owns a business, pays taxes, and was only awaiting a final hearing for her green card, has her rights trampled."
The woman herself declined to comment on the case. A U.S. government official confirmed the family relationship to the local WBRU broadcast station. These detentions are part of the tightened immigration policy in the United States, where the Trump administration is seeking to deport individuals it claims are living in the country without valid legal documents.
