U.S. Embassy warns Argentines of consequences of thefts in Miami

The U.S. Embassy in Argentina has warned about the legal and migratory consequences of committing crimes in its territory following the arrest of five Argentine citizens for theft at a mall in Miami.

In a message published on its official X account, the U.S. diplomatic mission stated, "The U.S. continuously monitors visa holders: respecting the law allows you to keep it." The post was accompanied by an image of people behind bars with the caption: "Do you think it's fun to steal at a mall in Miami?"

According to the Argentine News Agency, the five Argentines remain detained and, after serving their sentence, will be deported. "You could go to jail and lose your visa."

The case, involving the theft of merchandise valued at $4,200, constitutes a serious crime (felony) under Florida state law. Three of them have criminal records in Argentina.

The embassy's message generated widespread repercussion on social media, with most comments supporting the measure and expressing indignation over the incident.

"They don't represent us," "Take their visas away forever," and "Shame" are some of the most repeated responses, defending the image of Argentine tourism abroad.
