US President Donald Trump stated that despite creating what he calls the greatest economy in history, Republicans could lose the 2026 elections. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal published on Saturday, the 79-year-old Trump said: "I created the greatest economy in history. We should win." Trump returned to the White House on January 20 and regularly asserts that the American economy is thriving, continuing to blame inflation on his Democratic predecessor, Joe Biden. He told the publication: "I think by the time we're talking about elections, in a few months, I think the price level will be good." Previously, Trump had told Politico that the world's largest economy deserves a "25/20" rating (i.e., better than excellent). However, a University of Chicago poll for the Associated Press, published on Thursday, showed that only 31% of Americans are satisfied with the president's economic policy. In response, Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform: "When will polls finally reflect the greatness of America today? When will they finally say that I created, perhaps, the best economy in our country's history without inflation? When will people understand what is happening?"
