U.S. presidential envoy Steve Witkoff affirmed that representatives from the United States, Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey expressed their support for the establishment and rapid implementation of the so-called Peace Committee as a transitional administration in Gaza, as learned by the Argentine News Agency (NA).
Progress in the first phase of the ceasefire Witkoff indicated on the social media platform X that during conversations held on Friday in Miami, the representatives reviewed the implementation of the first phase of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, which has been in effect since October.
According to the official, the initial stage recorded progress, including: • the expansion of humanitarian aid; • the return of hostage bodies; • partial withdrawals of forces on the ground; • and a relative reduction in hostilities.
Towards a second phase and a new local authority Regarding the second stage, Witkoff pointed out that the four countries emphasized the need to establish a governing body under a unified Palestinian authority for Gaza, tasked with protecting civilians and maintaining public order during the transition.
The delegations urged all parties to fulfill their obligations, exercise moderation, and cooperate with the oversight mechanisms provided for in the agreement.
Despite the ceasefire, Israel has continued to launch attacks in the Strip in recent weeks, causing more than 380 deaths and over 1,000 injuries, according to Gaza health authorities.
