USA destroys drug trafficking boat in the Pacific

Washington, Dec 23 (EFE).- The United States destroyed a new boat allegedly linked to drug trafficking on Monday, killing one person on board, on a route in the Eastern Pacific. The vessel was described by the US Southern Command as 'low-profile' and was destroyed in international waters, while reporting the death of one person as a result of the attack. The operation took place on the same day that Trump suggested that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro would be 'wise' to leave power and attacked Colombian President Gustavo Petro, calling him an 'agitator.' Both South American leaders have repeatedly rejected the destruction of boats in both the Eastern Pacific and the Caribbean, calling the acts 'extrajudicial executions.' In one of the cases, which occurred in September, the incident was elevated to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), considering that a fisherman was killed in one of the operations carried out. The United States has destroyed more than 30 boats during similar operations to today's, in incidents that have left more than a hundred dead, from whom no identities have been delivered or the amount of narcotics that the vessels supposedly transported has been specified.
