Millions of Posts on Social Media About U.S. Intervention in Venezuela

Buenos Aires, Jan. 5 (NA) – A communications consultancy measured the digital activity on social networks generated by the U.S. military intervention in Venezuela and the capture of the country's ousted president, Nicolás Maduro, between Saturday, Jan. 3, the day of the American attack, and Sunday, Jan. 4, which resulted in millions of posts worldwide. According to the report by Ad Hoc (accessed by the Argentine News Agency), during those 48 hours, more than 23 million users worldwide posted about Venezuela and Maduro, with over 39 million public mentions of the topic on digital platforms. The countries with the highest volume of digital conversation were the United States (23%), Mexico (19%), Colombia (12%), and Argentina (10%). Mexico and, primarily, Colombia are indirectly affected by the U.S. intervention, as Donald Trump himself suggested that if the governments of Claudia Sheinbaum and Gustavo Petro do not change course, they could suffer the same fate as Venezuela. Among the key concepts used on social media, Ad Hoc measured that 'United States' accumulated the most mentions, followed by 'Trump'. Far down the ranking with a large number of mentions is 'Delcy Rodríguez', the self-proclaimed interim president after Maduro's ousting. Further down the list with significant mentions is 'Cilia Flores', the former president's wife, who was also captured in a special forces operation. 'Venezuelan People' and 'Free Venezuela' are two other key concepts frequently repeated on social networks, according to the consultancy. What's Next In seventh place for digital conversations is 'oil', the natural resource in dispute, which Trump himself admitted he is interested in acquiring through American investments. Finally, Ad Hoc measured the 'digital sentiment' towards Argentine President Javier Milei in relation to the Venezuela issue. 'Over the weekend, the 10 terms most associated with 'Milei' on social media were related to this topic. Support for Trump and the mobilization of the officialist community impacted the president's digital sentiment: 54.5% positivity,' the report stated. In contrast, negative expressions reached 35.9%, while neutral ones were 9.6%.
