Mexico — U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held talks with his Mexican counterpart Juan Ramon de la Fuente, days after President Donald Trump threatened to launch ground strikes against drug gangs he said control Mexico. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said on Friday she had tasked Fuente with enhancing coordination with the United States following Trump's threat. Trump earlier threatened to strike drug cartels. As stated in a release by U.S. State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott, 'Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke today with Mexican Foreign Minister Juan Ramon de la Fuente to discuss the need for stronger cooperation to dismantle violent drug trafficking networks in Mexico and to stop the flow of fentanyl and weapons'.
