Twelve more people were arrested during protests in recent hours against operations by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Minneapolis, the largest city in Minnesota, authorities reported today.
Protests continued on Thursday, with crowds gathering outside the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building, local media reported.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump once again criticized the Democrats governing Minnesota on his Truth Social platform. "The governor and mayor don't know what they're doing, they have completely lost control," he added.
On Thursday, Trump threatened to invoke the Insurrection Act in Minnesota, stating this measure would "quickly end the farce" occurring in the state.
The protests follow a series of incidents in the state related to ICE agents.
On January 7, an ICE agent shot and killed Renee Good, a 37-year-old woman and mother, sparking nationwide protests, according to Noticias Argentinas via Xinhua.
On Wednesday, another ICE agent shot a Venezuelan in the leg "after being ambushed and attacked" by two other individuals and the immigrant they were attempting to arrest, the DHS reported.
Protests intensified after the second ICE-related incident in nearly a week.
