Kremlin comments on Trump's plans to acquire Greenland

The Kremlin said on Monday that it is hard to disagree with experts who see US President Donald Trump entering US and world history if Washington manages to control Greenland. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov explained that Moscow is not discussing whether such a move is good or bad, stressing that his remarks are limited to describing a reality raised by international experts. Peskov added that Trump insists on nothing less than owning Greenland, an autonomous region within Denmark, pointing to the US president's statements in which he said Russia or China might take control of the island if the United States does not. Asked about Trump's comments on what he called the alleged Russian threat, Peskov said there is a lot of 'disturbing information' circulating lately, while confirming the Kremlin will not comment on claims related to alleged Russian plans for Greenland. The Kremlin spokesman added: 'Perhaps we can here bypass the question of whether this is good or bad, or whether it complies with international law standards,' noting that international experts believe that resolving the Greenland issue would make Trump enter history, not only US history, but world history as well. Meanwhile, Danish and Greenlandic leaders insist the island is not for sale and they do not wish to become part of the United States. Russia's Foreign Ministry said last week that it is unacceptable for the West to continue claiming that Russia and China pose a threat to Greenland, considering that the crisis over the region reveals the double standards of Western powers that speak of moral superiority.
