The Pretti family has confirmed to media that the man had participated in protests that took place in Minneapolis after immigration agents killed another woman in this city less than three weeks ago as part of large-scale raids on migrants ordered by the government of U.S. President Donald Trump. The man who died this Saturday in Minneapolis as a result of shots fired by federal agents has been identified as Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a 37-year-old nurse who worked in the intensive care unit (ICU) of a veterans' hospital in this city in the state of Minnesota, according to relatives and acquaintances told local media. The large-scale raids in Minneapolis — where the number of federal agents is five times greater than the entire police force of the city — were ordered by the Trump government in early January, when a documentary by a conservative 'youtuber' once again put the focus on cases of federal funds embezzled by daycare centers run by members of the Somali community. The Governor of Minnesota, Democrat Mike Walz, in turn ordered the deployment of the state National Guard to ensure security in the city, where part of the citizenry has protested against the large-scale raids. The Organization of Licensed Nurses of Minnesota in turn confirmed Pretti's death by issuing a statement in which it lamented the tragedy and stated that the nursing community in the state is mourning the event. Today's incident is the second of its kind in just over two weeks in Minneapolis, where on January 7, agents of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Service (ICE) shot and killed a 37-year-old woman, Renee Good, in her car during an operation. Images published on the internet show more than a dozen immigration agents struggling with the man before shooting him point-blank. The Department of Homeland Security, which oversees immigration services, has assured that the man was carrying a semi-automatic weapon and two full magazines and that its agents acted in self-defense. Pretti, born in the state of Illinois, studied nursing at the University of Minnesota and obtained his license to practice nursing in 2021.
