Trump Plans to Nominate New Head of Bureau of Labor Statistics

US President Donald Trump announced his intention to nominate economist Brett Matsomoto to the position of Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This comes after he fired the previous head several months ago due to a weak jobs report. In August, Trump fired Erica McIntire, who had been appointed by his predecessor Joe Biden. He accused her without evidence of manipulating the July data, which showed slower-than-expected job growth, and significantly reduced the numbers for nonfarm payrolls for the two previous months. Trump wrote on the Truth Social platform: 'I am confident that Brett has the necessary experience to accelerate the long-standing problems at the Bureau of Labor Statistics on behalf of the American people'.
