Protest in Texas Against Migrant Detention

About a hundred people protested in Texas on Sunday to demand an end to the detention of migrant families, following the release of Liam Ramos, a five-year-old boy detained with his father in Minneapolis (Minnesota) and later transferred to the southern state. The case drew national attention to the Dilley detention center, outside San Antonio, where approximately 1,400 migrants, including around 400 minors, are being held, according to information provided by Democratic lawmakers this week. The Dilley center is one of only two in the country where the federal government detains entire migrant families—a practice that was paused for several years during former President Joe Biden's term (2021–2025) and has been reinstated by Trump to accelerate migrant arrests and deportations. During Sunday's protest, around 150 demonstrators, according to organizers, voiced their opposition to the Republican administration's immigration policies and called for the release of the remaining families and minors in government custody.
