US President Donald Trump announced his intention to close the famous Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington for two years. Since returning to power, Trump has been overseeing the center and now plans to renovate it. "I have determined that halting entertainment operations there for approximately two years is the fastest way to elevate the Trump Kennedy Center to the highest levels of success, beauty, and magnificence," Trump stated. The president made the announcement on his Truth Social platform. The center, which Trump renamed to include his own name and which some artists have boycotted, will close its doors on July 4th, coinciding with the United States' 250th anniversary. Trump believes the renovation work will transform the "ailing" institution into a "world citadel of the arts".
