Jackson's family said in a statement posted on social media that Jackson, who is considered one of the most influential leaders in the African American community alongside his 'ally and mentor Martin Luther King Jr.', died at the age of 84. U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday called Jesse Jackson, who is considered the first African American to run for U.S. president, 'an icon of the American struggle for civil rights'. On his social media platform Truth Social, the U.S. president wrote: 'Jackson was a good man, he had a strong personality and determination, and he really loved people.' He added: 'I loved his family very much and offer them my deepest condolences. We will miss Jesse.'
