The United States government has filed a lawsuit against the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), over a "hostile work environment for Jewish and Israeli faculty and staff on its campus." The lawsuit, filed in the federal district court of this city, accused the university of having "ignored, and at times facilitated, overtly antisemitic acts and systematically ignored the pleas for help from its terrorized Jewish and Israeli employees." In September, a federal judge in the Northern District of California ordered the Trump administration to restore $500 million in medical research grants to the university. In the spring of 2024, protests in support of Palestine spread across university campuses in the United States, including several of the ten UC campuses. "According to our investigation, UCLA administrators allegedly allowed virulent antisemitism to fester on campus, harming both students and staff," said U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi in a statement. According to Argentine news agency Noticias Argentinas, in July 2025, the Trump government suspended around $584 million in federal research grants for UCLA, citing accusations of inadequate responses to antisemitism. In August, the Trump administration demanded that UCLA pay one billion dollars to resolve the antisemitism allegations. Over 200 pro-Palestine protesters were arrested on May 2, 2024, as police moved in to dismantle an encampment at UCLA.
