The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated this Sunday that the new leaders of Iran “want to talk” and confirmed that he has accepted to engage in dialogue after a massive military offensive that decimated the top of the Persian regime. In an interview granted to reporter Michael Scherer of The Atlantic, the head of state maintained that the new leadership in Tehran seeks a negotiated exit, although he questioned the delay in the response from Iranian authorities. “They should have done it earlier. They should have accepted something that was very practical and easy to do earlier. They waited too long,” Trump sentenced from his residence in Florida. Despite confirming his willingness to dialogue, the president refused to set a date for the talks or to identify with which specific figures of the transition his administration is dealing. According to what the Argentine News Agency learned, Trump pointed out that the landscape of interlocutors has changed drastically due to the impact of Operation Furious Fury, indicating that “most of those people are no longer there” and that some of the officials with whom contacts had been maintained in the past died during the raids. Netanyahu announced that attacks on Iran “will intensify in the coming days.” “It was a huge blow. They could have reached an agreement, but they got too clever,” he added regarding the leadership headed by the late Ali Khamenei. The comments from the head of the White House came shortly after he himself informed other media that a total of 48 Iranian leaders died during the joint bombings by the United States and Israel. Trump stated that the success of the mission was such that “nobody can believe it,” and considered that the weakening of the regime after the death of its main operational cadres is what has finally pushed the new leaders —temporarily headed by Masoud Pezeshkian— to seek a negotiation instance with Washington to stop the escalation.
