U.S. Military Operation Against Iran Cost $11.3 Billion

Buenos Aires, March 11 (NA) – The first six days of the U.S. military incursion against Iran cost more than $11.3 billion, according to Pentagon authorities. The report, published today by The New York Times, states that this figure, until now considered the most complete preliminary estimate received by Congress, does not include many related expenses such as the prior deployment of equipment and military personnel before the initial attacks. As a result, lawmakers from both parties expect the figure to increase significantly as the Pentagon continues to calculate the cumulative costs of the first week, the report added, according to Noticias Argentinas. The initial attacks used weapons such as the highly capable AGM-154 precision-guided glide bombs, each costing between $578,000 and $836,000, according to the report, which also notes that the U.S. Navy acquired about 3,000 of these bombs approximately two decades ago. Both The New York Times and The Washington Post had previously reported that Pentagon officials told Congress that the Army spent about $5.6 billion on ammunition alone in the first two days of the joint attacks launched by the United States and Israel.
