Trump Sparks Christian Outrage Over AI-Generated Image

Trump's religious-themed AI-generated image drew sharp criticism from Christians, including his allies, causing a rift within the MAGA movement. This incident followed an attack on the Pope and the use of fake imagery.

Trump Sparks Christian Outrage Over AI-Generated Image

President Trump sparked widespread outrage among Christian circles after posting a photo on Truth Social wearing white and red attire, placing his hand on the forehead of a sick man, while light emanates from his other hand. According to a report by the American news site Axios, this post, which was later deleted, was described by both allies and opponents as "blasphemy" and "crossing red religious lines," putting the president in direct confrontation with his core base. Axios confirmed that this incident created an unusual rift within the MAGA movement, when prominent media figures such as Riley Gaines and Michael Noles expressed their shock at the analogy Trump attempted to draw. In comments to the American site, Bishop Paul Erickson warned that this approach reinforces "Christian nationalism," which seeks to merge political power with religion. Axios highlighted the timing of the post, which came less than an hour after Trump's attack on Pope Leo XIV, whom he described as "weak." This escalation prompted the Archbishop of the United States to express his frustration over the offensive words directed at the Pope of the Vatican. This is not the first time that AI-generated images of Trump have angered Christians. Weeks after the death of Pope Francis, Trump shared a fake image of himself as Pope, a move that even drew condemnation from Cardinal Timothy Dolan, who is usually known for his friendly stance towards him.
