Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has been ordered by a judge to turn over control of a luxury apartment in New York, jewelry, and other valuables to two Georgia election workers as compensation for nearly $146 million. This decision came in a defamation case against the former official, after he falsely defamed Ruby Freeman and her daughter Wandrea' 'Shaye' Moss last year, accusing them of manipulating votes in the 2020 presidential election.
'We are proud that our clients will finally begin to receive some of the compensation they are entitled to for Giuliani's actions,' said Aaron Nathan, attorney for Freeman and Moss, according to Reuters. The federal jury in Washington, DC, determined that Giuliani, who was Donald Trump's personal attorney, defamed the two election workers by making unfounded accusations about their participation in the 2020 electoral process, which culminated in Joe Biden's victory over Trump.
In the order from U.S. District Judge Lewis Liman, it states that Giuliani must transfer control of the Manhattan apartment, cash accounts, sports memorabilia, luxury watches, and other valuable items to a court-appointed administration led by Freeman and Moss within seven days. This ruling adds to the legal consequences stemming from Giuliani's defamatory accusations, representing a significant step towards compensating the harm caused to the plaintiffs.
