Diana Taurasi Announces Retirement at 42

American basketball legend Diana Taurasi has announced her retirement after 22 years on the professional stage, during which she won six Olympic gold medals. Starting with the Olympics in Athens in 2004, Taurasi became the gold medalist in every women's basketball tournament at each Games, including the recent summer Games in Paris last summer.

"Mentally and physically I have reached a state of fullness, and possibly, this is the best way for me to explain that I am full and happy," Taurasi told the publication "Time" when announcing her retirement from sports.

After a brilliant collegiate career, Taurasi was selected first overall in the 2004 WNBA draft and became the league's all-time leading scorer, amassing a total of 10,646 points. She won the league championship in 2007, 2009, and 2014, was included in all-star leagues for 20 consecutive seasons, and represented the Phoenix Mercury. In the league of professional basketball players, they wrote: "Thank you, Diana, for changing the game forever."
